Letter from the Administrator
February is a month full of celebrations. It is ever so popular to celebrate love during this month and right now this world is full of reasons to tell each other why we love one another so much. Please take this time to call your family members and express love to them. Remind them that they are still in your thoughts and prayers and that they have a family network and host of friends who love them dearly. Some ways that you can do this is by writing letters or sending them a card. They would love to hear from each and every one of you!
This month is also National Black History Month, also known as National African American History Month. It is a time for all Americans to celebrate the achievements of African Americans. The month recognizes their central role in American history. Educate yourselves on someone who is African American and has made a positive impact on the world we live in today. There has been many contributions from the African American Community that attribute to many things we utilize today. Learn something new and help yourself gain positive knowledge on the influence of the African American culture and community.
Fun Facts: George Washington Carver developed over 300 products from peanuts. Louis Armstrong is widely known as a jazz pioneer. Colin Powell is a 4-star General who became Secretary of State. Colin Powell dedicated the Buffalo Soldier Monument at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, establishing the first Buffalo Soldiers Day. Barack Obama was elected the first Black President of the United States.
National Self-Check Month is a reminder that every day of the year we can take charge of our health and increase our odds of avoiding chronic disease and other often preventable conditions. It’s time to do your important self-checks and/or visit your healthcare professional for a wellness check. Before you go, visit selfchec.org for a list of proactive resources to help prepare you for your visit and make a list of any concerns you may have.
